Volunteer Opportunities The MBA offers many ways you can give back to the profession or to the public. Volunteer today for one of these important outreach efforts.
Conversations on Law & Liberty
Through the program "Conversations of Law & Liberty in Times of Crisis," volunteer attorneys lead high school students in discussions of the complex legal and civic issues facing our nation in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Dial-A-Lawyer
On the first Wednesday of each month, attorneys volunteer at the MBA Boston headquarters by providing free basic legal information by phone to callers between the hours of 5:30-7:30 p.m. Questions cover a wide range of legal topics. Additionally, twice a year the program is offered specifically to the general public in Western Massachusetts

Elder Law
During May, in celebration of Law Day, MBA members throughout the state volunteer their time to speak at their local senior center or council on aging on various elder law topics. Topics range from basic elder legal issues (wills, trusts, healthcare proxy) to more substantive areas (health insurance, Medicaid/Medicare).

Job Shadow
For one day in February, the MBA sponsors young people from various communities throughout the commonwealth to “shadow” attorneys in order to gain an appreciation of legal work in general and the area shadowed in particular. The goal of Job Shadow is to provide a favorable experience to the students, to foster an appreciation for the importance of living in a society of laws, to create a positive impression of lawyers and to introduce the students to a variety of careers available at a law firm.

Mock Trial
Do you enjoy working with kids? Do you have trial experience? Would you share your knowledge of the law and courtroom procedures with eager young minds? Then volunteer as an attorney coach or judge in the annual Mock Trial Program.

Pro Bono Opportunities
The Pro Bono Opportunities Guide is a comprehensive listing of statewide agencies that are in need of pro bono assistance from attorneys, law students or paralegals. Copies of the guide can be obtained from the MBA Community Services Department. The guide is also available online.

Speakers' Bureau
The Community Services Department receives calls from civic, social, educational and business organizations that are interested in having an attorney speak to their group.
